Witness – Greece – Protesting the protesters

91

In “Witness”, we are presented with an uncommon viewpoint on the Greek protests that have rocked the nation in recent years. Instead of following the masses who gather on the streets to voice their opposition to the government’s austerity measures, we are introduced to a small group of “anti-activists” who believe that these measures are necessary for the crisis-ridden Greek economy.

Led by Fotis and his friends in the Liberal Party, this group sets out to mount their own campaign in support of the austerity measures. As the protests rage on around them, they offer a unique perspective on the economic situation in Greece and the steps that must be taken to ensure its recovery.

The film does an excellent job of showcasing the complex and often contentious issues surrounding the Greek protests. Through interviews with both Fotis and his fellow “anti-activists” and those protesting against the government, we gain a deeper understanding of the differing viewpoints and the reasons behind them.

At times, “Witness” can be uncomfortable to watch, as we see Fotis and his friends being shouted down and even physically attacked by those who disagree with their perspective. However, the film never shies away from these confrontations, instead using them to highlight the passion and intensity of the Greek people in the face of economic hardship.

Overall, “Witness” is a fascinating and thought-provoking look at the Greek protests and the differing viewpoints that drive them. It offers a unique perspective on the economic situation in Greece and the complex issues that must be addressed to ensure a better future for the nation.
