A police stop can go wrong in seconds, and this docudrama from Flex Your Rights stages ten scenarios showing how. Actors reenact the kinds of encounters that turn into illegal searches, excessive force, or wrongful arrests: a driver pulled over on a pretext, a pedestrian questioned on the street, a home visit that escalates. Each scenario is built from research with people who have been through police abuse, working alongside defense attorneys and law enforcement professionals, and each one pairs the reenactment with a plain rule for how to respond, from knowing when you can refuse a search to how to invoke the right to remain silent. The film pays particular attention to racial profiling, showing how the same interaction can unfold differently depending on who is being stopped. There is no narrator lecturing from a studio; the lessons come out of watching the scenes play out and then seeing what a better outcome would have required.
