In Lesotho, a marathon runner logs punishing mileage while using his competition winnings to build his family a house. Morgan Neville, who directed 20 Feet from Stardom, follows each athlete through training, setbacks, and the qualifying events themselves, letting the day-to-day grind of the sport carry the story rather than staging it as triumph. The film's interest is less in medals than in what an Olympic berth would mean back home, for families and small nations with little else riding on the world stage.
