A Question of Miracles: Faith Healing
Televangelist Benny Hinn draws thousands to arena revivals promising cures through prayer, and this HBO America Undercover installment follows the crowds who come looking for one. Cameras catch the theatrics of the healing line, the collapses, the testimonies shouted into microphones, and the collection baskets that circulate alongside them, while reporters press Hinn and his followers on what actually happens medically when someone is "healed" onstage. Doctors and skeptics are brought in to weigh the claims against real diagnoses and real outcomes, and some of the sick and dying who traveled to be touched by Hinn are interviewed about what they believe is happening to their bodies. The film does not settle into easy mockery or easy belief; it sits with people whose hope is genuine even when the evidence for a cure is not, and lets the gap between the two carry the story. It closes without resolving whether faith heals, only showing how much people are willing to risk believing it does.
