Three friends set out to climb two of the Americas' tallest peaks, Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina and Denali in Alaska, and decide to travel the length of the continent between them by land rather than fly. The film follows their route north through South and Central America, where they volunteer in every country they pass through, get stranded on beaches when transport falls apart, hike through volcanic cloud forests, and at one point cross a border without proper documentation. The climbs themselves bookend the trip, but most of the footage is the overland stretch in between: the people who put them up for the night, the work they do in exchange, and the small emergencies of a plan that depends on strangers' goodwill. The film treats the mountains as the excuse rather than the point, spending more time on what happens at sea level between them. It closes on Denali's summit, the second climb finished after months of travel that had nothing to do with climbing at all.
