Cooperative businesses trying to survive inside a capitalist economy are the subject here, filmed by Patrik Witkowsky, Jesper Lundgren, André Nyström, and Nils Säfström. The film asks a direct question: can a company run democratically, with workers sharing ownership and decisions, actually compete against firms built on hierarchy and outside investment? It moves through case studies of worker cooperatives, letting the people who run them describe the daily friction between democratic process and market pressure, the extra time it takes to reach decisions by consensus, and the tradeoffs they accept to keep control in the hands of the people doing the work. The film is distributed through Fria Tidningar, itself a media cooperative, which gives the project a stake in the argument it is making. Rather than treating cooperative ownership as a slogan, it stays with the practical mechanics of running one, and lets the surviving businesses stand as the evidence for whether the model holds up.
