Chechnya sits at an odd crossroads: a republic once defined by war now building five-star hotels, recording studios, and fashion houses aimed at an international clientele, while everyday life stays governed by strict Islamic custom. The film moves between a hotel that hosts celebrities, a music studio nurturing local pop talent, and a fashion house whose designers fold traditional Chechen patterns into gowns sold to wealthy women abroad. At a wedding, dancers perform close together without ever touching or making eye contact, following religious rules that shape even the most modern-looking spaces. Elsewhere, the camera sits with students who spend their days memorizing the Quran, one of them stating plainly that non-believers are headed for Hell. No single narrator resolves the tension; the film simply lets the glossy commercial ventures and the austere religious instruction sit side by side, letting viewers weigh how a society rebuilds its image while keeping its older certainties intact.
