Chris Benoit: Wrestling with Demons
Chris Benoit spent two decades building a reputation as one of professional wrestling's most technically skilled performers, known in WWE rings as the Rabid Wolverine before his career ended in double murder and suicide. In June 2007, Benoit killed his wife Nancy and their seven-year-old son Daniel before hanging himself, a crime that ended a build toward the top of the sport and left promoters and fans searching for an explanation. The film traces his rise through independent wrestling into WWE stardom, using match footage and interviews with people who worked alongside him to show the wrestler the public thought it knew. It then turns to what a postmortem brain examination found: severe, repeated trauma consistent with the sport's punishing physical toll, the kind of damage since linked to CTE in other athletes. The film sits between two accounts of the same man, the champion in the ring and the killer at home, without pretending the gap between them fully closes.
