Chuck Norris built his reputation as a six-time World Professional Middleweight Karate Champion before Hollywood ever called, and this biography opens with him already famous, running through fight scenes and stunts from Walker, Texas Ranger, the CBS series that ran from 1993 to 2001. It then backs up to Ryan, Oklahoma, where Norris grew up poor with an alcoholic father and found martial arts as an escape. Interviews with Norris, his mother, and colleagues trace his path from Air Force service to competitive karate to a film career that included Way of the Dragon opposite Bruce Lee, The Delta Force, and Missing in Action. He also discusses developing his own martial art, Chun Kuk Do, drawn largely from Tang Soo Do. One of the film's more personal stretches covers the death of his brother in Vietnam and how it shaped his later support for military charities. The film keeps its focus on career and character rather than his political or religious views, which get acknowledged but not dwelt on.
