Conrad Murray was an unknown cardiologist from Las Vegas before Michael Jackson hired him as a personal physician; when Jackson died on 25 June 2009, Murray was the only other person in the room. This film was made in the days immediately after a jury convicted Murray of involuntary manslaughter, and it carries footage shot with Murray and his defense team during the trial itself, away from the courtroom cameras. It traces the relationship between the two men: the medication regimen that had become routine, Jackson's isolation despite his fame, and how a physician with no history in the entertainment world became his confidant. The film sets that private world against the public case, cutting between Murray's own account and the evidence that convicted him. It closes with a 15-minute interview in which journalist Steve Hewlett presses Murray directly on his version of events. The result is less a defense of Murray than a record of how the friendship curdled into a trial that ended one man's life and the other's career.
