Hank Green opens with a set of push-ups to make a point: every muscle contraction runs on ATP, and this episode traces where that energy actually comes from. He frames cellular respiration as an economy of supply and demand, then walks through glycolysis breaking glucose into pyruvate, the fork into anaerobic fermentation or aerobic respiration, and the Krebs cycle, named for biochemist Hans Krebs, which strips electrons onto carriers called NAD and FAD. Those carriers feed the electron transport chain, where their electrons ultimately generate the bulk of a cell's ATP.
