Discovery's science series sets out to answer big questions across a wide range of fields, one hour-long episode at a time. The first episode, "Did God Create the Universe?", puts the question to Stephen Hawking, who lays out how a universe could arise from nothing without needing a creator. Later episodes turn the same format on the human mind, history, archaeology, medicine, anthropology, and biology, with each hour built around a single question and answered through expert interviews and location footage rather than a running narrative. The series ran weekly from its August 2011 premiere through a first season of thirteen episodes, then returned for a second season from October 2012 to January 2013. After that it slowed to occasional specials, including a 2014 episode on Stonehenge that examines what the monument's construction and layout can tell us about the people who built it. The result is less a single documentary than a rotating set of standalone inquiries, held together only by the format itself.
