Dr. J of HubbleCast answers viewer questions about the deepest images Hubble has ever taken, starting with the Hubble Ultra Deep Field: a patch of sky one-tenth the size of the full moon, empty of bright stars, that the telescope stared at for nearly 11.3 days of total exposure. Inside it sits galaxy UDFj-39546284, a candidate for the most distant object ever found, its light estimated at 13.2 billion years old. From there the program covers what happens when galaxies collide and their central supermassive black holes eventually merge into one, illustrated with real Hubble imagery rather than pure animation. A sequence on cosmic motion follows Saturn's aurorae, the drifting exoplanet Fomalhaut b, light echoing through dust around V838 Monocerotis over four years, and the debris of Cassiopeia A still expanding nine months apart. It closes on Eta Carinae, a star 7,000 to 8,000 light-years off that already survived one near-explosion in the 1800s and remains a supernova candidate with no predictable date.
