In 2014 Chile's government grants the Daya Foundation a license to run Latin America's first legal medical cannabis grow, and this film spends six months following the debate that decision set off. Interviews carry the whole argument: politicians and members of the Chilean Congress on one side, scientists testing cannabis extracts on the other, and in between the Daya Foundation's own founders and growers explaining how the operation works. The strongest material comes from patients themselves, including people treating epilepsy and cancer, describing what the drug has changed in their daily lives. Rather than settling the question, the film lays out the case for and against legalization for medical use and lets viewers weigh scientific testimony against political caution and personal testimony against both. Directed by Diego Estay for Geek Media, it stays close to Chile's specific legal and legislative moment rather than making a broader argument about cannabis policy elsewhere.
