Seven American airmen go down over Borneo during World War II and find themselves stranded in jungle controlled by Japanese patrols on one side and, by local rumor, headhunting tribes armed with blowpipes and spears on the other. The film follows their attempt to survive and reach safety without a clear picture of which threat is real and which is exaggeration. A British major already operating in the region joins them, bringing local knowledge and a plan to get the airmen out rather than simply evade capture. The story stays close to the ground-level experience of the crash survivors: rationing food, reading the jungle for danger, and deciding which reported threats to take seriously. It is a dramatized account rather than a talking-heads history, built around reenactment and performance to carry the escape rather than archival footage or interviews.
