In 1483, the twelve-year-old King Edward V and his younger brother Richard are lodged in the Tower of London and never seen again. This episode of the anthology series In Search Of, hosted by Leonard Nimoy and first broadcast on November 9, 1981, lays out the case against their uncle, who took the throne as Richard III within weeks of their disappearance. The program walks through the standard suspects and evidence: Richard's swift claim to power, the Duke of Buckingham as a possible accomplice, and the bones found under a staircase in the Tower in 1674 that were later reburied as the princes' remains. Historians and commentators weigh the Tudor-era accounts written under Richard's successors against the thinner physical record, and the film does not pretend the case is closed. Nimoy's narration keeps the pace brisk and the tone speculative rather than conclusive, treating the princes' fate as one of several open questions the series built its reputation on. No confession, no surviving body, just a throne that changed hands very conveniently.
