Hitler's Atlantic Wall runs roughly 4,000 miles of coastline from Norway down to Spain, built with an estimated 13 million tonnes of concrete poured under German occupation to stop an Allied invasion before it could land. The film traces the construction of that network: gun emplacements, bunkers, and beach obstacles going up along headlands and dunes that had been ordinary coastline a few years earlier. Captured German documents and combat footage sit alongside interviews with soldiers who fought at the wall itself, giving both the engineering and the experience of manning it. The back half turns to Operation Overlord, following the planning and execution of the D-Day landings that Allied commanders built specifically to break through these defenses. The wall's failure is the film's real subject: thousands of miles of fortification, immense in scale, undone within weeks once the invasion found its point of entry. It plays as a case study in the limits of static defense against a mobile, well-planned assault.
