Dateline NBC sends its crew looking for a figure known only as Strike, an underground chemist rumored to be one of the country's biggest producers of ecstasy. The trail starts with a group of college students who talk about scoring pills through a chain of contacts, each one a step closer to the source, and it eventually leads correspondents to a man named Hobart Huson, who says he is Strike. The episode moves between the students' casual accounts of buying and using the drug and the harder question of who actually manufactures it, tracking leads that dead-end or double back before Huson appears on camera. His interview is the closest the broadcast gets to an answer, though it leaves plenty unconfirmed about scale, method, and how much of the Strike reputation is real versus invented. What comes through clearly is the ecosystem around the drug: the demand among young users, the mythology that builds around a supplier nobody can quite pin down, and the difficulty a news crew has cutting through both.
