Vlade Divac and Drazen Petrovic grew up as teammates on the Yugoslav national team in the 1980s, close enough that Divac calls him a brother, before the breakup of Yugoslavia turned them into strangers. The film traces their rise together, from youth tournaments to the 1986 World Championship run, using archival footage of the two of them laughing on the bench and celebrating medals as a pair. Then the Croatian War of Independence starts, Petrovic is Croatian, Divac is Serbian, and a photo of Divac pulling a Croatian flag from a fan's hands at a game becomes the moment Petrovic cannot forgive. They never speak again before Petrovic dies in a car accident in Germany in 1993 at twenty-eight. Divac, narrating in the present day, travels to Croatia to sit with Petrovic's parents and former teammates, working through what the war took from a friendship that basketball had built. The film treats the sport as the frame and the politics as the thing that actually decided how the story ends.
