Space Tourists
Only seven people on Earth have paid their own way into orbit, and this film follows the strange world built around them: the medical exams, the Star City training grounds, the launch-pad goodbyes, and the long stretches of waiting that come before a few minutes in space. Produced by Roscosmos TV-Studios, the film gets access to the cosmonaut program's usual gatekeeping and turns it toward its wealthiest clients, tracking the emotional swings between exhilaration and doubt that come with spending a fortune on a trip most people will never take. Rather than dwelling on rocket hardware or the fantasy of leisure travel to orbit, the camera spends its time on the people around the tourists, engineers, trainers, family members, whose lives orbit this small, odd industry without ever leaving the ground. The film treats the whole enterprise as a case study in what people will risk and pay for the chance at an experience that cannot really be described afterward, only repeated by those who have had it.
