Gregg Wallace spends a year getting access most shoppers never see, following Britain's biggest supermarket chains from the fields and factories where food is grown and made to the shelves where it gets sold. He watches how retailers manage suppliers, set prices, and stage-manage the appearance of freshness, from lighting and packaging tricks to the timing of deliveries designed to make produce look picked that morning. The film follows specific supply chains back to source, showing farmers and processors under pressure to meet supermarket specifications on cost, size, and shelf life, and it includes footage of livestock and slaughter practices that some viewers may find disturbing. Wallace talks to buyers and factory workers rather than executives, getting the account from people handling the food rather than the people setting policy. The picture that emerges is less about outright fraud than about presentation: what supermarkets choose to show customers, and what stays several steps back in the supply chain, out of view.
