The Gulf War of 1991

February 24th 1991, American tanks roll across the Saudi Arabian desert towards the Iraq border, their part of a multinational force with a clear and simple mission, to drive Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi army out of Kuwait. Having a large army but a devastated economy after his war efforts Hussein’s goal was to take control of Kuwait’s oil rich emirate and they did so in just over 36 hours. Having ignored the United Nations demand for immediate withdrawal this resulted in the UN sending a US lead coalition of 620,000 to show they mean business.
