On November 22, 1963, Lyndon Johnson becomes president of a country that did not elect him, in the hours after Kennedy is shot in Dallas. The film follows that single day from Johnson's vantage point: the flight back to Washington aboard Air Force One, the hurried swearing-in performed in the plane's cramped cabin with Jacqueline Kennedy still in her blood-stained suit, and the scramble to project stability while Kennedy's body is still being processed. It revisits the disputed timeline of when Kennedy actually died and how that timing shaped the choreography of the oath of office photograph that became the day's defining image. Interviews and archival material reconstruct the logistics nobody plans for, securing a nation's trust within hours, briefing a cabinet, addressing a public in shock, while Johnson himself is shown working through the transfer of power in real time. The focus stays narrow, one day, one man forced into command, rather than the wider assassination story.
