Nick Papadimitriou has spent decades walking the edgelands of London: the reservoirs, ring roads, sewage works, and scrubland that sit outside the postcards, cataloging them with a method he calls deep topography. Director John Rogers follows him on these walks, letting the camera linger on pylons, motorway verges, and overgrown footpaths while Papadimitriou narrates their buried histories in obsessive detail. Writers Will Self, Iain Sinclair, and Russell Brand appear in interviews to place him within the tradition of psychogeography, treating him as both a genuine eccentric and a serious researcher whose archive of forgotten places has real value. The film doesn't dress up its subject: Papadimitriou is prickly, funny, and often alone with a tape recorder, describing a drainage ditch as though it were a cathedral. What emerges is less a portrait of a city than a portrait of a way of paying attention to it, one that finds wildlife and history in land most people are trained to ignore on the way somewhere else.
