Filmed in 2002, deep in Southern Appalachia, this raw documentary was originally available only on VHS copies sold by Popcorn Sutton out of his junk shop at the bend of the road outside of Maggie Valley. However, as homemade copies multiplied and were handed around, the film quickly became a cult classic in the mold of Dancing Outlaw. The film and its footage went out to inspire CMT’s Shocking Stories of Moonshine, the Emmy award-winning PBS special The Last One, and the Discovery series Moonshiners. Here now, in humble glory, the original distillation that captured the end of an era.
