Twist of Faith
Tony Comes is a firefighter from Toledo, Ohio, who as a boy was molested by Father Dennis Gray, a priest in his parish. The film catches him with a career he loves, a wife, young children, and a house in the same close-knit Catholic community he grew up in, before he decides to report the abuse to his bishop. The bishop's response pushes him toward a public lawsuit, and the film follows what that decision costs him: neighbors and relatives who side with the church, a marriage strained by his anger and guilt, and children too young to understand why their father is suddenly on the news. Interviews with Comes, his wife, and members of his family trace how the abuse and its aftermath reach into every relationship he has, including his relationship with the church itself. The film does not resolve neatly. It stays with a man trying to hold together a faith, a family, and a community that would rather the whole thing stayed quiet.
