Northeast England has the highest rate of 11-to-15-year-olds drinking alcohol anywhere in the country, and double the national average of under-18s in treatment for drink-related problems. The film follows Phil Tye, a youth worker who spends his nights on the streets and in youth clubs trying to intervene before kids end up in hospital or in trouble with police. Cameras sit in on his conversations with teenagers who are asked directly why they started drinking so young and why they drink to the point of blackout, and their answers range from boredom to peer pressure to simply following what older siblings and parents already do. Tye's frontline work is the throughline: turning up where the drinking happens, talking kids down, and trying to reach them before the statistics catch up with them. The film stays close to the region's specific numbers rather than treating underage drinking as an abstract national problem.
