The word "indie" carries a certain mystique in music and film circles, suggesting authenticity, rebellion, or simply good marketing, depending on who you ask. Montreal-based artist Tim sets out to test that mystique, interviewing a range of independent artists about what the label actually means to them. Some describe indie as staying true to oneself, others frame it as a stance against mainstream culture, and a few dismiss it outright as an industry marketing term. Tim pushes back on all of it, arguing that the traditional indie movement's dogma often traps artists in cliche rather than freeing them, and that clinging to indie identity can be "destined for mediocrity" instead of greatness.
