Nairobi's matatu drivers run the city's informal minibus network, and they are widely despised and feared for it: reckless driving, extortion, and turf violence follow the trade everywhere. This film follows one driver, never named on screen, who wants out. He works the rush-hour crush, cramming passengers in and out of an unregulated system that leaves no room for error, since a wrong move can mean a crash, a fine, or worse. The camera stays close to his daily route, catching the graffiti-covered matatus, the gridlock, and the crowds pressing at every stop, while he deals with corrupt police officers looking for bribes and rival drivers protecting their turf. Underneath the routine is a plan: save enough, get clear of the trade, start something else. The film does not resolve into triumph or tragedy so much as show the arithmetic of his situation, one fare at a time, in a job built on danger and short odds.
