In late 2001, thousands of Taliban and foreign fighters who surrendered at Kunduz were loaded onto container trucks bound for Sheberghan prison in northern Afghanistan. Journalist Jamie Doran tracks survivors and witnesses who describe trucks arriving with suffocated corpses, and bodies later dumped at a desert site called Dasht-i-Leili. Former prisoners recount gunfire into sealed containers and mass graves dug by bulldozer, while local drivers and villagers describe being ordered to help bury the dead. The film presses the Pentagon and allied Northern Alliance commanders, including General Rashid Dostum, for answers about American personnel reportedly present during the transfers, and shows the initial official denials followed by a shift toward acknowledging an investigation. Satellite imagery and on-camera testimony anchor the claims, and the reporting traces how a story first dismissed as rumor pushed the United Nations and US officials to respond. The film's stakes are blunt: an alleged war crime involving a wartime ally, and a grave site that was never properly excavated.
