Alexander the Great tracks the short, violent career of the Macedonian king who took an inherited army and used it to break the Persian Empire in little more than a decade. The film follows his path from Pella through the key battles that made his name, including the clash with Darius III at Gaugamela, and into the long march east toward India before his death at thirty-two in Babylon. Emphasis falls on the tactical decisions that let a smaller force repeatedly beat larger ones, and on the personal traits, ambition, restlessness, a taste for risk, that historians point to as both his greatest asset and the reason his empire fractured almost immediately after he died. Battle sites and ancient sources are used to reconstruct how the campaigns actually unfolded rather than just retell the legend. It is a straightforward military-history account of a life that reshaped the ancient world in roughly ten years, then collapsed just as fast once the man himself was gone.
