
Anatomy of the Sun
The Sun looks like a solid glowing ball from ninety-three million miles away, but this film breaks it into layers and shows how each one works. At the core, hydrogen atoms fuse into helium under enormous pressure, releasing the energy that eventually reaches Earth as light and heat. That energy has to cross the radiative zone, where it can take thousands of years to work outward, before reaching the convective zone, where boiling plasma finally carries it to the visible surface. The film also tracks what happens when the Sun's magnetic field gets tangled: sunspots form, flares erupt, and charged particles blast outward as solar storms. It explains how those particles can slam into Earth's magnetic field, disrupting satellites and power grids and lighting up the sky at high latitudes as aurorae. Built around NOVA's Sun Lab materials, the film keeps its focus tight, treating the Sun not as a static disk in the sky but as an active, layered engine whose internal chemistry has direct consequences for the planet orbiting it.
