MIT OpenCourseWare offers this introduction to ancient Greek philosophy and its contributions to the Western intellectual tradition. The course works through primary texts on nature, law, justice, knowledge, virtue, happiness, and death, with heavy emphasis on reconstructing and evaluating the arguments those texts contain rather than just summarizing positions. Materials include the full syllabus, readings drawn from figures such as the Presocratics, Plato, and Aristotle, and assignments built around close textual analysis. As with other MIT OpenCourseWare offerings, all lecture notes, readings, and assignments are freely available online with no enrollment fee and no certificate attached. The course suits anyone wanting a structured, text-based grounding in how the Greeks framed questions about reality, ethics, and human flourishing that still shape philosophical debate today.
