After General Jorge Videla's junta seized power in March 1976, Argentina's security forces abducted and murdered around 30,000 people, among them roughly 500 women who were pregnant or had just given birth. This film follows the decades-long effort to find out what happened to those women's children, many of whom were secretly handed to families with military connections and raised under false identities, sometimes by the very people involved in their parents' deaths. Interviews center on the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo, who have spent decades tracking down these now-adult children, and on the children themselves as they confront DNA evidence and testimony that upends who they thought they were. Archival footage from the dictatorship years sits alongside present-day interviews and courtroom material documenting the ongoing identification cases. The film builds its account case by case, showing how genetic databases and persistent family searches have slowly unraveled a state-run scheme to erase identities alongside the people the junta wanted gone.
