Dotan Negrin hauls an upright piano through American streets and public plazas, setting up to play for whoever happens to be passing by. This episode of The Back of the Busk, a series otherwise built around New York City subway and sidewalk buskers, follows Negrin's own project, Piano Across America, as he moves the instrument from city to city rather than staying rooted to one corner. The camera stays close on the performances themselves and on the strangers who stop, listen, and sometimes sit down next to him, showing busking as a transaction between a musician and whoever the street happens to send that day. There is no narrator laying out a thesis; the footage of hauling, unloading, and playing does that work instead. As an entry in a series about NYC's busking scene, it doubles as a look at what happens when that same instinct to perform in public gets taken out of one city and put on the road.
