Bank failures during the financial crisis set the frame, and the film follows the fallout into three unrelated corners of the same downturn. In Israel, kibbutz communities adjust their collective economic model to survive the credit crunch, a system built on shared resources now tested by outside market shocks. Coastal communities hit by typhoons face a second layer of hardship, rebuilding with less credit and less aid available than before the crash. General Motors appears as the industrial casualty, a company whose near-collapse becomes shorthand for how banking failures spread into manufacturing and jobs far from Wall Street. The film moves between these threads without much narration scaffolding, letting the banks, the kibbutzim, the storm-damaged regions, and GM's crisis stand as separate case studies of the same global squeeze. It is less an argument than a survey of who absorbs the damage when the financial system fails.
