Banaz Mahmod is a young Kurdish woman living in suburban London when her family arranges her death in 2006, punishing her for leaving an arranged marriage and starting a relationship with another man. Filmmaker Deeyah Khan spent four years gaining access to the police investigation and assembling the film around video messages Banaz recorded herself, in which she names her fears and predicts, with unsettling accuracy, how she will be killed. Detective Chief Inspector Caroline Goode of Scotland Yard describes searching for Banaz's body and eventually tracking suspects to Iraq to secure convictions against her father and uncle. Her sister Bekhal, estranged from the family for refusing the same path, testifies against them despite the cost: a life spent afterward in hiding. The film uses that testimony alongside the police footage to show how many people in the surrounding community knew what was planned and said nothing. It closes as an act of recovery, giving Banaz's own recorded words the last say in a case that made international headlines.
