Coming of age in one of the harshest climates on earth means proving you can survive it. This film follows young herders in Siberia and Mongolia through the rituals that mark the line between boy and man. Edik must guard his family's 4,000-strong reindeer herd from wolves during the long migration to the Great North, a job that leaves no room for a child's mistakes. Altagan and Dsolbo travel across the Mongolian desert with their camel herd, hunting for winter pasture in a landscape that offers little of it. The camera stays close to the physical work: driving animals through snow and cold, reading weather that can kill, standing watch through nights when predators circle the herd. Failure here is not abstract; it means the herd suffers, the family's livelihood is at risk, and the boy remains a boy. The film treats these communities on their own terms, letting the herders' own accounts of the stakes carry the story rather than narration imposed from outside.
