Ashcan was the codename for a requisitioned hotel in Mondorf-les-Bains, Luxembourg, where American forces held and interrogated the top surviving Nazi leadership in the weeks after the German surrender on 8 May 1945. Hermann Göring, Karl Dönitz, and Wilhelm Keitel are among the prisoners the film follows, stripped of rank, medals, and morphine, and questioned before any tribunal existed to try them.
