Biomedical Computing
This MIT OpenCourseWare course examines how computation supports clinical medicine, covering the nature of clinical data, the architecture and design of healthcare information systems, privacy and security issues, medical expert systems, and an introduction to bioinformatics. It also looks at how clinical data relates to gene and protein measurements. Case studies and guest lectures describe real healthcare information systems and ongoing research projects, and a term project has students work with large clinical and genomic data sets to integrate the topics covered in class. Materials include lecture notes, readings, and assignments from MIT's Health Sciences and Technology and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science departments. No enrollment or certificate fee applies, consistent with MIT OpenCourseWare's open publication of course materials.
