A railway journey through the Bolivian Andes carries the film from Tupiza to Villazón, near the Argentine border, at altitudes above 4,000 meters. The camera follows the train through rugged canyons, wide plateaus, and rock formations streaked red and gold, while the narration traces the line's origin as a mineral-hauling route built to move ore out of the mountains and its present role connecting isolated communities to the rest of the country. Stops along the way bring in local life: market towns, farming villages, and the people who depend on the train for transport that roads in this terrain cannot easily replace.
