Border Megacity: The World's Busiest Land Crossing
Woodlands Checkpoint links Singapore to Malaysia and clears several hundred thousand travelers a day, making it one of the busiest border crossings on earth. With cargo trucks, motorbikes, and pedestrians moving through around the clock, 1,300 officers from Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority work rotating shifts to screen people and goods without stalling traffic that is expected to grow by a third by 2050. The film gets access behind the checkpoint's gates and booths, following officers as they question travelers, inspect vehicles, and handle the routine friction of a crossing point built for a volume it was never designed to absorb at this scale. Interviews with ICA staff lay out what a shift actually involves, from spotting forged documents to managing the sheer crush of commuters who cross daily for work. The film treats the checkpoint less as a security story and more as a logistics one: how a small, orderly nation-state keeps a river of people and cargo moving without losing control of its own border.
