Grimsby fisherman Darren Kenyon voted Leave because Boris Johnson promised more control over British waters and bigger catches. Two and a half years after Brexit, his income is down and the paperwork has multiplied. DW Documentary travels through Humberside, a Red Wall region that voted nearly 70% for Brexit, to hear from people who now regret it, including a fish-and-chips shop owner who admits he is embarrassed he voted out. The film traces the region's economic decline back to the 1990s and to EU fishing quotas that hit local boats hard, then shows how Johnson exploited that resentment with a campaign visit to Grimsby's fish market days before the 2019 election, promising extra catch and regulatory autonomy that never arrived. A side story follows Steve Arnott, who runs a hip-hop project in Hull that once relied on EU funding and now has none, with no replacement money coming from London. Interviews with fishermen, fishmongers and suppliers carry the film's case that Brexit's promises to this industry went unmet.
