Brussels Express: The Perils of Cycling in Europe's Most Congested City

Brussels calls itself a cycling city, but its streets tell a rougher story. This short film follows riders navigating tram tracks, cobblestones, and heavy traffic in one of Europe's most congested capitals, asking why a country that produced Eddy Merckx, five-time winner of the Tour de France, still struggles to make its capital safe for bikes. Cyclists and commuters describe near-misses and daily workarounds, while the footage itself does much of the arguing: narrow lanes squeezed between parked cars, intersections with no clear right of way, and streets where cars and bikes compete for the same few feet of pavement. The film sits at the gap between Belgium's cycling reputation, built on road-racing glory, and the lived experience of getting across Brussels on two wheels. It is less an argument for or against urban cycling than a close look at what makes one particular city hard to pedal through, told through the people who do it anyway.
