Stanislaw Burzynski, a Houston biochemist, spends decades treating cancer patients with antineoplastons, compounds he isolated from human blood and urine in the 1970s and patented as an alternative to chemotherapy. The film follows the FDA's repeated attempts to stop him, including four separate grand juries convened in Texas that declined to indict him despite years of investigation. Patients and parents appear on camera describing remission after conventional treatment had failed them, among them children with inoperable brain tumors, while archival news footage and courtroom records trace the regulatory fight as it plays out over roughly two decades. Interviews with journalists and former FDA officials lay out the agency's case that his clinical trials never produced the published results required to approve the drug nationally. The film sides clearly with Burzynski, framing the FDA's actions as protection of pharmaceutical interests rather than patients, and leaves the scientific question of antineoplastons' effectiveness largely to the testimony of the people who took them.
