Chagas disease has infected millions across Latin America, spread by the blood-sucking triatomine insect often called the kissing bug, yet most people carrying it never know until organ damage is already underway. This short documentary follows an Argentinian doctor working to change that, tracking patients in the rural communities where the insect thrives in cracks of adobe walls and thatched roofs. Interviews and on-the-ground footage show the gap between the disease's scale and its visibility: decades can pass between infection and the heart or digestive failure it eventually causes, which is why doctors call it silent. The film follows the physician's efforts at diagnosis and treatment in under-resourced clinics, and the larger struggle to get Chagas recognized as a public health priority rather than a disease of the poor that the rest of the world can ignore. It is a plain, clinical look at a neglected epidemic and the people trying to stop it one patient at a time.
