An advanced Mandarin course from MIT OpenCourseWare, continuing the 21G.104/108 sequence. Students build sophisticated conversational, reading, and writing skills by combining traditional textbook study with independent exploration of Chinese speaking societies, drawing on human, literary, and electronic resources available in the Boston area. The course introduces aspects of Chinese society, culture, customs, history, and the psychology of its people, conducted entirely in Mandarin. Class work includes reading, discussion, composition, network-based exploration assignments, and conversational practice sessions. Materials include the syllabus and course structure as published by MIT, free to access online with no certificate offered. Suited to students who have completed introductory and intermediate Mandarin coursework and want to push into more nuanced cultural and linguistic territory.
