Cloning the First Human

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Fertility specialists Panayiotis Zavos and Severino Antinori say they intend to do what no one else has dared: clone a human being. The film follows the two doctors, one working out of Kentucky, the other an Italian gynecologist already notorious for helping a 62-year-old woman give birth, as they describe their methods, their timelines, and their conviction that infertile couples deserve the option regardless of what governments or scientific bodies say. Interviews with the pair are set against reaction from geneticists, ethicists, and fertility researchers who question whether the technology is safe enough to try on a person at all, pointing to the high failure and deformity rates seen in cloned animals like Dolly the sheep. The film does not resolve whether either man actually succeeded, and treats that uncertainty as part of the story: a pair of self-styled pioneers operating at the edge of what regulators allow, daring the scientific establishment to stop them before they finish.
