The Democratic Republic of Congo is the largest country in Central Africa, six times the size of Germany and home to more than 100 million people, yet the film opens with that scale to set up a sharper question: where does the country's wealth actually go? Congo sits on vast mineral reserves, cobalt, coltan, diamonds, gold, that fuel global electronics and jewelry markets, and the film follows the money as it moves from mines and trading posts toward a small circle of people who profit while much of the population lives in poverty. Interviews and on-the-ground footage trace the networks of businessmen, officials, and armed groups that control access to resources, and the contrast the film keeps returning to is stark: fortunes built in a country still scarred by conflict and weak state institutions. It is a portrait of extraction economics at its most extreme, where chaos itself has become a business model for those positioned to exploit it.
