Conspiracy of Silence: The Franklin Cover-Up

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Investigative reporters dig into allegations that a Nebraska credit union embezzlement case, centered on businessman Lawrence King, was a cover for a child trafficking ring reaching into state politics and the halls of Congress. The film uses interviews with alleged victims, investigators, and a state senator who led a legislative inquiry into the Franklin Community Federal Credit Union collapse, along with grand jury testimony and news footage from Omaha. It follows claims that children from Boys Town and local foster care were flown to Washington D.C. for parties attended by powerful men, and traces why a grand jury ultimately called the abuse allegations a hoax while a separate investigator hired by the legislature reached different conclusions. Discovery Channel scheduled the film for broadcast in May 1994 and pulled it at the last minute after legal threats, and it has circulated since largely through bootleg copies and cable access airings. The film does not resolve the case; it presents the competing claims and lets the suppression of its own broadcast become part of the story.
